THE TRUTH ABOUT CONTENT WRITING
Want to know why I titled this
piece “The Truth” and not “The Fact?” well, I was in a conversation with some
very sweet people some years back and what one of them said made a permanent
stay in my heart. “A fact can go into extinction but not the truth” well, I
agree.
What really is content writing?
“But I’m not an English student, anything that has to do with writing are for
those in the field of arts” I really get such comments a lot. Now my dear
brother or sister, (in an evangelist’s voice) content writing was not made for
a specific discipline but it was made for some certain kind of people. People
who have interest, passion and willingness to learn. Being an English graduate
or undergraduate doesn’t make you a good content writer however it is a very good
advantage.
“Like play like play” content
writing is already a part of our lives. We see contents on different social
mediums. They are what give us information, keeps us up to date with our
environs, feed our souls with interesting and helpful things. However, it
really has to be very presentable and that’s what makes a good content writer
(let’s keep the details of this for another blog post).
The creation of content is simply
the process of birthing topics that are useful to your target audience and presenting
such ideas in a creative skillful and suitable way.
What then makes a good content writer?
For this part, I would write just
two things.
Creativity. By being creative, I
mean your creativity should be the major source of what you write; google shouldn’t
be your rescue for everything. Of course google helps but the main source of
your writing should be the creative you. The unique touch to your content is
your creativity because there is no one else with the exact creativity you
have.
Furthermore, engage in
self-development. Personally, if I have a job offer and I’m asked if I can do
this and this…. I would never directly say no because I know I can actually do
it. They say preparation meets with opportunity, well yes. I was given a remote
job offer some months back I told them I could do what they need even though I
wasn’t very confident of myself and of a truth, I learnt more about content
writing while I was at the job. The more you write the more experience and
confidence you achieve.
Use catchy sub-heading for your articles.
For instance, if you are writing
an article of about 1000 word count you should use about three to four
subheadings, learn how to use transitional words for each paragraph, know the
maximum number in which each sentence should consist. Well these are some
bonuses, find out the rest for yourself.
Like Miss Olayemi would tell me,
read books, take courses on content writing. You have to keep updating yourself
as a content writer.
How do
I cook my words into different enjoyable delicacies for my readers?
My article would be incomplete
without this last part. I’m sure your eyes are still glued to your phone and
your mind is fully here. The essence of writing is for communication of
information to a targeted audience however, the way you communicate this
information is very important.
There was a day I went to an
eatery. To cut things short, I was welcomed and served like a queen. Another
day, I tried out another eatery, their service was not enjoyable compared to
the last one; I had to figure out my seat by myself, my order didn’t get to me
on time and all. I don’t think I would ever want to go there on my own, unless
the food is free and there is no crowd.
This is almost the same way with
content writing, there are two writers on ground and an information needs to be
passed across to a definite audience. Some writers feel if they don’t exhaust
all the grammatical words in their archives then they aren’t good to go. For
me, establishing a strong connection with your target audience is very much
dependent on effective communication. Strike a balance. Use good and
comprehensible grammar, use appealing sense of humor, engage in the act of
brainstorming with other creatives like you, network with other writers, I’ll
leave you to figure out the rest.
Content writing is not as tasking
as you think, but it is tasking. And I believe you have the ability create
quality contents now that you have an idea.
Conclusively,
there are many truths to content writing, I have only written “half of a bit”
about them.
Great piece!

ReplyDeleteSo so nice and apt. The only truth and nothing but the truth. I know this because it's like you spoke out my mind... I mean, entirety of my mind. I was also offered a remote job few months ago and just as you, i wasn't sure i could do it.
ReplyDeleteThough, i have stopped the job because i had to face school and other things, this write up just confirmed what has been going through my mind for a while now - to get better and get another content creation job or return back to the one i dropped.
Thank you so much for sharing
DeleteThis is the truth indeed. I love this line "Use comprehensible grammar". very apt.
ReplyDeleteIt's not as if writers are ignorant of this. It's just that some writers think a good writer is measured by how much big words they use. Lol
